Opportunity Description

Our client is a Specialty Chemical manufacturer supplying ingredients to the Consumer Products and Personal Care industries.  We are seeking a Senior Microbiologist with excellent aseptic techniques and quality systems knowledge for a long-term consulting assignment.  This is a senior non-managerial position working on a team as an individual contributor reporting directly to the Department Manager.  This Senior Microbiologist will have responsibilities for conducting routine and non-routine testing using ASTM methods, internal testing procedures and customer specified project methods. 

Job Duties

  • Conducts microbiological analyses on a wide variety of raw materials, finished products and prototype materials using routine and non-routine testing methods.  Assists in evaluation of, or development of alternative test methods.
  • Maintains open communication with technical personnel, management, sales personnel, and customers, when required.  Ensures that all technical inquiries are addressed in a timely, professional and effective manner within the time scale required. Interact with global colleague as required.
  • Maintains high standards of lab safety and health within the requirements of OSHA and other relevant codes of practice and conducts laboratory safety inspections as required. Employs aseptic technique and accepted microbiological practices to prevent microbiological contamination of surfaces, equipment, and personnel. Shares in responsibility with for the general cleanliness and tidiness of the laboratories. Conducts or assists with Plant Hygiene Surveys, when required. 
  • Conducts/supervises special projects, when required or requested. Conducts analytical assays through High Performance Liquid Chromatography, when required.
  • Maintain culture collections, calibrate and operate laboratory equipment, prepare culture media and stock solutions. Evaluate Quality Control, Calibration and complaint data, provide troubleshooting recommendations. Assist in laboratory activities including, but not limited to, proficiency testing, product qualification studies, troubleshooting studies, customer correlation and various special studies.
  • Records and maintains accurate test results maintaining documentation in notebook and electronic systems. Submit written laboratory reports to Department Manager, Sales and Technical team members as approved.  
  • Prioritize and execute assigned duties to meet targets, may be tasked with technical training of sales force, fellow lab personnel, and participate in client visits as necessary. Assist with new hire and sales representative training on products and equipment. May participate in establishing and carrying out the quality management system policies.

Education

  • MS Microbiology + 2 years of experience preferred; BS candidates with 5+ years of relevant work experience will be considered.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Skilled in microbiological techniques with industrial microbiology laboratory experience (preferably greater than 5 years)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Proficient communication and computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, strong customer service and desire to help others and benefit a team objective.
